X-FLARE AND RADIO BLACKOUT: Solar activity reached high levels this weekend
with an X1-class solar flare on Feb. 11th. A pulse of extreme ultraviolet
radiation ionized the top of Earth's atmosphere, producing a strong shortwave
radio blackout over South America. More flares may be in the offing as active
sunspot AR3217 turns toward Earth. Full story @
