I'm glad this issue was resolved, and for what its worth, there are at
least 50 hams in the area which would have made it time consuming to
contact each one. This was a good (not good) unplanned fox hunt, and it
reminds me of the time there was interference on the 146.92 repeater
years ago. At the time I had an Icom mobile which had an attenuator on
the squelch control, so it was relatively easy to narrow the signal down
to a few square blocks.
This is one of the things I like about ham radio the most... hams coming
together to offer a service or resolve an issue.

I want to update everyone on the outcome of the stuck mic problem on
the repeater yesterday.
First, I want to thank everyone that helped out on trying to locate
the stuck mic. Several people, both club members and non-members took
time on trying to find the offender. The information that I sent out
helped in some ways in locating the transmitter. However it was
discovered even with the "best" information, the tried and true method
on signal strength searching worked very well (one comment from one of
the searchers is that the incident was a good test/training on finding
problems like this).
Second, I want to remind everyone they need to set their time-out
timers on their radios. The radio feature can prevent 99% of the stuck
mic problems, especially one like yesterday that lasted over 5 1/2
hours. Also by setting their timer to 3 minutes this will coincide
with the repeater 3 minute timer making sure no one runs over the limit.
The offenders radio equipment was checked and it is unknown why it
just starting transmitting. It was determined that the timer was not
set but it was also found that the removable control heard was loose
and was causing intermittent connection issues.
So you could say that it was an equipment error and even if the timer
was set, it may have not made a different in this case (that's the 1%).
So that means I need to get a new radio for the house!
Thanks again for everyone's help! If anyone has any questions, please
send me an e-mail direct.

A starting point is what is needed. Again, this is the reason that

Obviously there is no guarantee that the stuck mic station is someone
on the roster, but there are 4 that are in that zip code. That could
be a good starting point.

Upon further investigation, the stuck mic appears to be near the
Memorial and Eldridge area.
If anyone knows any one near that area, have them check their radios
for a stuck mic.

Currently the repeater is turned off due to a stuck mic. The problem
started just before noon and the Stir Crazy NET and is still
happening after two hours.
It appears the offender is in the SW Houston area somewhere between
Westpark and Interstate 10, and between Interstate 610 and Highway 6
area.
It does appear to be a base station since there is no mobile
fluttering and there has been a telephone heard in the background
several times.
If anyone knows of somebody in that area that has base station,
please give them a call and have them check their microphone.
Over the past couple of weeks, stuck microphones have happened
several times.
The is a great example of why everyone should set the time-out-timers
on their radios to prevent this from happening.
Hopefully this will clear up soon.
