Linux itself does not provide anything like COM, although desktop
environments like GNOME or KDE provide similar functionality for
inter-application communication. The original poster was not very
specific about what their requirements are so it's hard to say exactly
what they can use in these environments to do similar things his
application does under Windows.

There are many X toolkits that you would be able to rewrite your
application in. However, you might start back on the Windows side and
find a toolkit that is cross-platform like GTK+, fltk or WxWidgets and
start rewriting your application from there.
