DBus seems to be growing in popularity - this isn't the first time I've 
seen it mentioned.  It sounds like the sort of thing upon which a COM 
wrapper could be layered on top of somewhat easily for Linux.  It would 
certainly make it easier to port Windows apps. to Linux.
