o no, I contradicted you. I'm really sorry if that bothers you, but you 
shouldn't mislead newer programmers in to thinking that you have the only book 
list available, and they must now rush to the store and buy the books *you* 
recommended. First, I didn't say they had to read the standards to learn c++ or 
c. I just stated the fact that they don't "need" to read the books you provided 
in your welcome message.
It may surprise you to learn there are other resources out there, that you in 
all of your wisdom didn't include in the one and only welcome message.

  in the Welcome message. They closely follow the ANSI Standard.

  But you are right - they don't need to read books if they are willing to 
  sit down and read the Standard. The whole point of a book though is to 
  make the Standard more easy to digest/comprehend. Standards, by 
  definition, are very dry, mind numbing technical documents.
