You don't appear to be one of them however. The correct way to
optimise is to use a profiler first, second and third, and only then
when you think there is a problem with speed/memory.

Guessing what is quicker without any metrics (as you appear to be
reccomending, *especially* with your divide by two/shift one bit) is
completely the wrong way to optimise. Please stop telling people to do
it that way.
