I assume you mean writable. Yes, /var/sadm/install is writable,
/mnt/misc is not.

Distribution constructor bundles files in '/var' and '/opt' into
compressed hsfs archive in order to save space in ramdisk and
creates symbolic links to /mnt/misc/ directory where that compressed
archive is lofi mounted during boot.

I assume that we will need to keep the original files in /var/sadm/install
in order to have them writable in case we would like to install SVr4 package
in running install environment ?
