Thanks that worked.  Could I impose on you for one more time saving pointer?  I 
need to configure about 16 workstations and want to populate the right settings 
into nsswitch.conf, printers.conf, set local, hostname, and so forth.

Can you point me at some good basic examples of settings for doing this?  
Basically I just need to make sure the systems have dhcp configured, have the 
right nsswitch.conf and printers.conf files and configured as LDAP clients.

Yes - you would need AI ISO image. They could be obtained
from http://www.genunix.org for instance - they are labeled
with 'Automated Installer'.
As far as solution for this problem is concerned, there is
bug 4712 filed for enhancing installadm tools with check
if correct type and version of AI image was provided.
