I don't know why it would be different. I'm not sure what is setting it 
that way.

I beleive (but I'm not positive) that I was stilled logged in for the 
first time as my new user.
I suppose it's possible that it's only that way till the end of the 
first login, or the beginning of the second?
I don't know why that would be though.

unfortunately, it's so much of a pain to install this machine (only 
512MB, need to ssh in, set display, and install from a remote Xserver.) 
that I don't know when/if I'll be able to test to see if I can reproduce it.

I know I didn't do it myself.
