Justin,

Just to make sure the client isn't suffering from bad network configuration, at the point of failure, log into the client console as root/solaris and see if there's an issue with the network configuration.

Can it even ping pkg103.us.oracle.com?

Is there a default route set up?

Is the client having trouble resolving hostnames?

Try wget'ing that file at this point.

hi all,

my AI server/repo recently starting having problems. issue reproducible
during a host client installation.
below is the screen output of the failure. this was working recently,
and nothing, to my knowledge, has changed on the AI server.
this happens for any build i try (all of which were successful at one
point), admittedly i've only tried build 08 and 09 to this point. and is
seen on different clients.

I can retrieve that file, so that suggests that the server was having issues.  Either it was overloaded (too many requests) or was being restarted while the client was attempting to install.

The package system will retry 4 times by default before giving up and aborting the operation.

Have you tried this operation again?

yes, i have tried 3 or 4 different times with build 09, and once with build 08.  all same results.  i also had a user trying to do an onu on an existing host with same errors

i did also restart the server service, and get same results, the log file for the service (i'm understanding that the service should be in a good state?):

Do you know how this server is configured?

i'm supposed to ;)

i'm assuming i have apache in front of pkg.depotd
# ps -ef | grep apache2 | wc -l
      21
# ps -ef | grep depotd
    root  1201     1   0   Dec 08 ?         309:49 /usr/bin/python2.6 /usr/lib/pkg.depotd --cfg svc:/application/pkg/server9000:de
    root  9467     1   0   Dec 14 ?         346:26 /usr/bin/python2.6 /usr/lib/pkg.depotd --cfg svc:/application/pkg/server:s11
    root 10977  4004   0 17:54:58 pts/1       0:00 grep depotd
    root 10962    11   0 17:54:58 ?           0:00 /usr/bin/python2.6 /usr/lib/pkg.depotd --cfg svc:/application/pkg/server9000:de
    root 11426     1   0 15:24:26 ?           0:50 /usr/bin/python2.6 /usr/lib/pkg.depotd --cfg svc:/application/pkg/server:s11u1

basically, i didn't build up the server, but i support it now. (along with other AI servers at other sites)

The recommended HTTP configuration is to use Apache w/ mod_cache and mod_proxy in front a pkg.depotd server.

Alternatively, the package bits can be made available via NFS, which has less overhead and will scale better than HTTP for install purposes.
