if it's a popular site, then that means it did something right, so they try
to clone since they don't have enough imagination to create their own
popular site.

you can often make money selling the clone. also, if you setup the clone to
be similar to the original (similar style domain, appearance, etc), it could
fool people into thinking you're the original site
