Hacking the core really wouldn't do it for me, I guess the only proper
way to use Cake is with hardcoded queries.

As without this simple ability I'd rate the database abstraction as
"broken".

Has it really be a year since the bug was posted???
Nothing?
Am I choosing the wrong framework?
