Thanks everyone. Seems CakePHP can handle some serious load. It's a pity there isn't more information on this and performance tuning tips in the Cookbook.
It's also a shame there is no mention of performance improvements in the release notes for each version. Something CakePHP really needs to work on, I think. That said, it is awesome how quickly an application can be put together in CakePHP! Thanks all.
