Well, I've only done this with experienced dance friends, and it might be 
counter-productive with newer dancers, but many improper contras *can* be 
danced by just two couples, as long as you're willing to switch partners each 
time through and rotate the axis of the dance 90 degrees each time through. 
(E.g. if a dance begins Balance & Swing Your Neighbor, and ends with Pass 
Through to a New Neighbor, just turn to your partner after the first time 
through the dance and treat them as your new neighbor. Repeat ad libitum.)
