As you said, some of the current code is quite Unix/Linux specific, so 
the code will not run well on Windows today. It might work with Cygwin - 
someone was trying Cygwin, but I don't know the results. However, our 
goal is to be cross-platform, so Windows is on the ToDo list.

Our strategy means replacing various poor performing parts of the 
existing code, step by step. It so happens our replacements are 
generally cross-platform, so this is taking us naturally in the right 
direction. Once some of the key blocking issues are fixed in this way, 
we will look more seriously at solid Windows support. More immediately, 
we are trying to run smoothly on anything Unix-like - Linux, ***BSD, MAC 
OS/X being the main targets. The software is functional on all these 
right now, but we trying to achieve more polish.
