Dear Neak Arsor-Sel Perom,
I think you're very good the researching on KHmer-History.
I cannot wait to see your book publishing and again Congratulation for your
works.
Cheers,
Bun H.
--FYI--
Dear Friends,
I stayed with Lok Kru Keng Vann Sak for 1 week during my trip to Europe
(02/16 to 03/2/2006).
I had a chance to interview him for my Oral History Book "Khmer Issarak".
Here are some questions. I had taped in audio all my interviews. He had asked
me to write his biography. The interview is just for my book not for public
broadcasting.
Some questions that I had asked him:
1- How did he meet his wife?
2- I understand that he knew Ieng Sary since Lycee Sisowath time, and Saloth
Sar was working for him in the past as well. Did he ever give political advices
to them? Was he ever involved in the KR-leaders activities in the past: i.e.,
did he ever teach them politics, hate of monarchy etc...? In sum, was he ever
involved with them at all as people keep on accusing him of?
3- What was the actual cause of his house arrest by Sihanouk in the late 60s?
4- How was his relationship with Samdech Sang Chuon Nath? Were they rivals?
5- If he can change and simplify Khmer language, how would he proceed to do
that? Does he have any written document?
6- Does he have an archive of all his work should something happens to him?
7- Can he share with everyone his literary and research work? If yes, how can
one obtain them?
8- He mentioned on RFA about a blood marker for Mon people. Can he provide
you a copy of that article?
9- He mentioned on RFA that he has a lot of books he want to write. Because
of his advance age, writing may be too slow to accomplish all his work. Can he
dictates want he wants to write instead? In this manner, someone can take his
work and convert them into books.
10- If he has the chance to turn back the clock, would he still follow the
same path as he did before? If not how would he like to live his life
(political, literature, etc...)?
11- What did he miss doing the most in his lifetime?
12- Does he have any words for younger Khmer generation (life, language,
culture) etc...?
13-What did he think about Khmer Issarak Movement?
14-Was Lok Ta Seung Ngoc Thanh: a republican? a die-hard anti-royalist? a
nationalist?
15-I also interviewed Lok Leuk Sam Oeun aka Pkay Preuk after I returned from
France regarding Lok Ta Seung Ngoc Thanh.
16- I was invited by Steve Heder, Prof. at University of London. I went to
UK to meet Steve for 3 days.
17-Dr. Mak Phoeun(Prof. Dr. History) and Khin Sok (Maitre Dr. es Letters:
Linguistic & History) had reviewed my draft "Khmer Issrak Book". They gave me a
very good feedback.
18- I met Dr. Sin Kim Suy (Dr. es Lettres: Philosophy, Sorbonne University)
two times.
I try to be a reporter/record keeper. I present the information from the
recorded statements. I have my note and the reader can use as information to
draw their conclusion. These Khmer elders are getting very old and some of the
history lessons may get lost after they pass away. One of the biggest
weaknesses in our Khmer society is that Khmer people who held important
positions never wrote any biographies. It's such a shame. If only Samdech Nhek
Thioulong, Samdech Penn Nouth, Samdech Son Sann, Son Ngoc Thanh, etc. had
written their biographies, then we would learn more of our past history. We
could learn from those lessons and avoid repeating the same mistakes. I'm doing
my best to preserve Khmer history.
Thanks,
Perom
