Dear all,
In terms of further developments which happened this week:
- Mu Sochua, will see her National Assembly salary docked to pay nearly $2,000
in compensation. The Phnom Penh Municipal Court ordered the National Assembly
to take approximately 4.2 million riel, or $1,000, from her paycheck for two
months. See: http://ki-media.blogspot.com/
- The Grassroot Movement of Cambodian Women will thus not be able to give Mu
Sochua the fund raised. It has decided to carry out a Roundtable discussion
with Mu Sochua (Tuesday 27th July, 8.30am, Baitong Restaurant) on the future of
the movement. Representatives from different sectors have been invited
(teachers/students, sex workers, garment workers, a representative from the
Women's Affairs Ministry). The discussion will focus on potential use of the
funds (at the moment, the movement has been thinking of setting up a "Justice
Fund" to support women within the legal system), as well as formal organization
and aims of the movement and future actions (including the possibility of a
national conference by the end of the year).
Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information.
Best regards
Victoria on behalf of the Grassroot Movement of Cambodian Women.
