it would also be *very* nice if the netscape/mozilla feature of the
escape key would work so the animated gifs are stopped when the esc key
is pressed. This would resolve the problem for some cases...

I confirm the problem on my PowerBook G4 1GHz, OS 10.3.5, Camino
0.8.1. The idle CPU use bugs me because (I assume) it consumes power.
Idle CPU goes as high as 60% with many tabs, even if when none of the
Camino windows are visible.
I suggest that the CPU usage may be related to Flash or GIF animations
which are loaded but not visible. The solution might be to make sure
that only visible animations consume CPU.
