Reverse Offshoring Latest Outsourcing Trend
Maybe the grass isn't greener on the other side. We've been
taking a close look at the whole "Outsourced to Asia" trend,
and uncovered an interesting boomerang. Turns out that
hidden costs have become the fly in the ointment, causing
more than one company to shut down their outsourced
operation, "insourcing" the functions back into the company.
What went wrong? Our special coverage details the ins and
outs of this explosive issue.

portable options. But what if you want to build your own?
We've got you covered there too, with guidelines on how to
build your own external drive. It's easier than you think!

New Creative Zen Rivals iPod
I've never caught iPod fever. Instead I'm a big fan of
Creative's Zen lineup of hard-drive players. The 60Gig
version I carry around has a removable battery and holds a
full month's worth of tunes! And now, Creative's come out
with an interface that rivals the iPod as well. The new
touch screen, according to our reviewer Bill Machrone, works
great, but other features are even better! To find out what
makes this player great, read our in-depth review and then
check for the lowest prices online. Oh, and if you're an
iPod lover, we've got something special for you: Our new
Extreme iPod site is loaded with hacks, downloads, news, and
reviews of iPods and accessories!

Share Outlook Calendars
So here's the problem. You use Outlook on a home machine,
and each of your family members has his or her own mail
account. But what if you want to share a calendar or
contact list so that everyone can see and update it? Think
it's impossible? Think again! We've got a nifty little
solution for your problem that'll keep your mail private but
let you share too.

Open Source Threat Looms Large for Microsoft
It's not just me saying it either. According to Microsoft's
latest 10-k filing with the SEC, Open source threatens just
about every area of Big Green's business model. We've read
the whole filing carefully, and the increase in open source
mentions has been dramatic. Clearly this is a company that
sees itself as under fire. That could be good news for
Microsoft fans, however, as the company seems to really hit
its stride when a clear threat emerges-see OS/2, Netscape
Navigator, Lotus, and Apple for historical examples. Our
story details exactly what we found in Microsoft's latest
government filing.

Ericsson Halts Bluetooth Development
Wow. The inventor of the increasingly ubiquitous
short-range wireless technology has backed completely away
from the technology. Could the Swedish company be a victim
of its own success? Our story explores why Bluetooth is no
longer on Ericsson's plate, and what that means for the
whole short-range wireless market.
Ericsson says Bye-Bye to Bluetooth:

It's Two, Two, Two Chips in One
The latest announcements from Intel and AMD remind me of the
Doublemint Twins. That's because both companies promise to
put two complete processing cores on a single chip no bigger
than today's CPUs-essentially providing a multiprocessing
unit in a single chip package. Double the power, double the
cycles, double the fun! But it makes me wonder: Will it be
double the heat and double the price? Only time will tell,
but our story gives details about what's going on. Plus
Intel's annual lovefest, aka IDF, is underway, and our
special report fills you in on what's happening and why,
including Paul Ottelini's keynote and more.

Great HDTV, Half the Price
Been ogling those nifty flat-panel HDTV sets, but can't
stomach the $3,000 and up price tags? Well we've got good
news. The experts at ExtremeTech put the new Olevia 30" LCD
through its paces and came away impressed. It's one of the
best we've seen so far. Even better: At $1700, it's about
half the $3,000 going rate for 30" LCDs. If you're looking
for a flat panel TV, but don't want to spend (relatively) a
lot, check out our review before the football seasons starts
on Thursday!

Build a WiFi Can-Tenna
Looking to increase the range of your Wi-Fi Network, or
perhaps shoot a signal across the street or down the block?
You need an antenna made out of a can! The archetypal
Pringles antenna has been discussed for years, but how do
you really make one? We've got the answer, with
step-by-step instructions and parts lists to get you
wide-area WiFi in no time. Don't miss our detailed
instructions if you need a bit more oomph in your wireless.
