Suburban Chinese restaurants in and around the San Fernando Valley, unless they're catering to a predominantly China-born clientele, don't have to serve the same fare as their counterparts in the San Gabriel Valley.

Southland farmers cash in on Asian staple
Tucked in between the freshly built houses, within a pitchfork's throw of the clogged freeways of Southern California, an unlikely cash crop grows. From the eastern edge of San Bernardino to the Chino Valley, bok choy has become the most valuable vegetable in the county.

The artist's flow
When Harout and Sona Hamassian moved into their new Calabasas home five years ago, it boasted a simple cement water fountain in the foyer. But the fountain was far too plain for the couple, who wanted a unique centerpiece for the room.

So they hired Westlake Village sculptor John Storojev, who crafted a 9-foot-tall copper water fountain that features more than 30 different levels of cascading water, lotus blossom petals, misting fog and synchronized lights.
