DINING
Paul's stands tall
Paul Lloyd has returned with a bigger and perhaps better restaurant than either of his previous efforts.

The diminutive Welshman who San Fernando Valley diners remember as the originator of Paul's Cafe in Sherman Oaks (now Le Petit Jacques) and Paul's Cafe in Tarzana (still going strong under different ownership) has opened Paul's in Westlake Village (previously the location of Red's).

It's a huge, sprawling place adjacent to the Hyatt Westlake Hotel....[MORE]

FOOD
Art of the grilled cheese
There's something warm, cozy, irresistible and enticing about biting into a crispy, homey sandwich oozing with stretchy strands of soft, melted cheese.

"Grilled cheese is the food of childhood memories. It's simple food. It's diner food. It's kid food. And it's adult fare, too," says Laura Werlin, author of the just-released, "Great Grilled Cheese: 50 Innovative Recipes for Stovetop, Grill, and Sandwich Maker (Stewart, Tabori & Chang; $16.95)....[MORE]

"It is amazing," says Harout Hamassian. "It's a one-of-a-kind piece. He's really come through with flying colors."...[MORE]

Health
Taking shots
Paulette Rock of Sherman Oaks did a lot of research before deciding to immunize her son Sebastian, now 1. What she found, especially on the Internet, was a lot of conflicting information.

"There's a huge community of people who don't believe in immunizations," she says. "But I saw no direct medical association with the side against immunizations. So I thought the opposite - with all the viruses coming in, it's even more important to get immunizations."...[MORE]
