U.S. winning fight against rebels, terror
With numerous appearances in New York and Washington this week,

A little breathing room
Dodgers: SAN FRANCISCO -- In the never-ending
and rarely successful quest to neutralize Barry Bonds, conventional
baseball wisdom is about as useful as a fastball down the middle.
It was in that spirit that with two outs in the ninth inning of
what figured to be a pivotal game in the National League West on
Friday night, Dodgers manager Jim Tracy threw away the proverbial
manual. Photo Gallery: Dodgers ...[MORE]
Beltre is valuable, but he's no Bonds
Kevin Modesti: SAN FRANCISCO -- Before the Dodgers beat the
Giants on Friday night, Jim Tracy delivered to writers from Los
Angeles and San Francisco an earnest and well-reasoned argument for
Adrian Beltre over Barry Bonds as the National League MVP.
The Dodgers manager was able to keep this going for nearly a
minute, and with a straight face, too. ...[MORE]
Angels gasping in loss
Angels: ANAHEIM -- It took just one inning for
the Oakland Athletics to bury the sleepwalking Angels in the first
game of their so-called showdown series here. Two more Oakland wins,
and the Angels might be buried for good.
Backed into a corner by the dwindling schedule and their own
indifferent play of late, the Angels produced little fight in losing
the first of three fairly must-win games. Oakland jumped ace Kelvim
Escobar and rolled to a 6-3 victory in front of 43,503 at Angel
Stadium. Photo Gallery: Angels ...[MORE]

Meet a kinder, gentler Che in 'Motorcycle Diaries'
Here's a test of moral moviegoing.
"The Motorcycle Diaries" is, by most standards, an excellent
film. Thoughtful, beautiful to look at, well-acted, sincere, funny and moving in just the right doses.
And the movie is faithful, as far as I know, to its source
materials, the nonfiction "Motorcycle Diaries" by Ernesto Guevara
de la Serna and "Traveling With Che Guevara" by Alberto Granado.
There is every reason why you should come out of the movie feeling uplifted, inspired, even edified. ...[MORE]
