I'm rereading MSF v.3 Overview* since that seems like an appropriate
place to start a discussion on Microsoft Solutions Framework.

Perhaps we could begin with the principles.

At the core of MSF are eight foundational principles:
Foster open communications
Work toward a shared vision
Empower team members
Establish clear accountability and shared responsibility
Focus on delivering business value
Stay agile, expect change
Invest in quality
Learn from all experiences

OK. I'll buy into all of those.

And here's the XP list for comparison:
Fundamental Principles:
Rapid Feedback
Assume Simplicity
Incremental Change
Embracing Change
Quality Work

Further Principles:
Teach Learning
Small Initial Investment
Play to Win
Concrete Experiments
Open, honest Communication
Work with people's instincts - not against them
Accepted Responsibility
Local Adaptation
Travel Light
Honest Measurement

For whatever reason, I'm more comfortable with the MSF list. It seems
shorter, simpler, and less restrictive. I like the XP list but when I
see things like "Honest measurement" I wonder if the list is a little
more baggage filled and complex than it needs to be.

However, it strikes me how similar the two lists are, like two groups
independantly reaching the same conclusion.

I wonder if XP 2.0 has a different set of principles...
