USB devices are designed to fall-back to 'full speed' (12 Mbit/s) if
'hi-speed' (480 Mbit/s) is not available. This should apply to a
hub's upstream connection too, so I think it will work, but you
won't get the benefit of 'hi-speed' connections to USB 2.0 devices.
The hub will throttle their bandwidth down to 12 Mbit/s for the
connection to the host (i.e. your laptop) assuming it is 'full
speed' only. If that's the case the only reason to get a 'hi-speed'
hub now is in anticipation of a host "upgrade" :-)

Note that USB 2.0 doesn't necessarily imply 'hi-speed' - a 'full-
speed' (or even 'low-speed' - 1.5 Mbit/s) device can be USB 2.0
compatible, but only USB 2.0 compatible devices can support 'hi-
speed'.
