As to umbrellas - we bought 2 el-cheapo folding ones at a Dollar store here (Canada) for about 4.00 ea. We pack them in an outside zippered pocket on our checked through suitcase. Easy for security to check, and if they do go missing, no great loss. We often go straight from the airport to pick up our hire boat and it saves having to go hunting about to find a shop that carries them and/or at a reasonable price. > > I also concur with John's post at the top.
