The next meeting of the Gloucestershire and Herefordshire IWA Branch 
will be on Thursday1 Feb at 19:30.

Derrick Hunt will be talking on:

"The Dorset & Somerset Canal - the unfinished canal... "

The D&SC was dubbed "The canal that never was" by Robin Atthill, author 
of the classic book "Old Mendip".

Derrick Hunt, Chairman of the Dorset & Somerset Canal Society will 
introduce the canal and some of the characters involved in the first 
part of the talk entitled "Friends, foes, families, feuds, finance & 
failure".

Part two will describe the excavations of the world's first boat lift or 
balance lock as designed by James Fussell in 1798.

Artefacts discovered at the trial site will be on display and an 
interpretation offered for comment, discussion or even argument

Docks, GL1 2EH (near the regimental museum).
