In my early days of boating mid 50's, I had a Granta folding two seater canoe, 
which was the size of a golf trolley, It got me to lots of places from Chapel 
-en -le- Frith (Central & South stations) in Derbyshire to Marple, 
Cromford,Whaley Bridge & Manchester. I never had a problem. I blame Dr Beeching.

  Or the fold up boat? - that's about 6ft x 18in when folded. You might get 
  away with that. I can't see the trains taking a kayak, except as separtate 
  parcel service.
