The reason that the IWA have not got a mailing list is that as things stand, Head Office would not be able to control it. I agree that any list that the IWA had should be restricted to members (unlike the IWAI list). I have been going on about the IWA having a members list for years. If the IWA members (for it is still a membership organisation) want to talk drivel and are uninformed, it would be up to the moderator and other IWA members on the list to put them straight. This is probably better than the silent majority of members with a computer, with not a strong Branch background, with no sense of belonging, having no input at all. As things stand, if a list was started it would be so moderated by someone at Head Office, (probably lumbered on overworked Matt), that it would involve too much of his limited time and be a pointless excercise. Don't tell me that this would not happen, for as you probably know, even the Council List was moderated (for a while!) Any input to the public newsgroups would have to come from Head Office, to make sure any statements or opinions were of the official line, with more and more work being piled on Head Office staff, they simply have not got the time. As Mike says, there are too many established lists around at the moment to warrant another and the IWA have probably now missed the boat... -- Neil Arlidge - NB Earnest - Shannon Reg 7410...not here anymore...
