When we filled with water at Old Ford Lock, we weren't quite sure where to moor as the lock landing was taken by a continuous moorer! Two gents emerged from the lock building and advised us to stop in the lock to fill up, they lent us adapters so that our hoses fitted the non-standard taps and also carried our rubbish to the bins for us. How lovely we thought, good old fashioned service from a lock keeper but no! They were members of the local fishing club to whom BW rent the lockkeepers building. They had it installed with sofa and armchairs, TV, sink and it was a home from home where they could spend their retired hours hiding from their wives.
