Pontoon with secure gated access has now gone. Well, the gate is still there, but not the pontoon. The area next to where the pontoon was is now a construction site. See http://www.auluk.freeserve.co.uk/pictures/dalestreet.jpg (taken yesterday) There are usually a number of boats moored overnight above the Rochdale Nine so you would be reasonably "safe" although you might not want to leave the boat unattended. It might be better to stop overnight in the Portland Basin area (either after the Lift Bridge no.1 on the Peak Forest, or on the Ashton opposite the museum) and do all the Ashton locks and Rochdale Nine in one go. The moorings at Castlefield are popular and you can leave a boat there unattended to visit the delights of Manchester. -- Martin Clark Internet Boaters' Database http://www.boaterweb.co.uk Pennine Waterways Website http://www.penninewaterways.co.uk
