Shirley these two are in to semi-tidal bits and we were refering to the
locks at the head of a tideway?...I suppose boats do go up the Avon and over
Netham Weir
If you are including Hanham and Old Ford (Lee), then you should also include
Keynsham, as it is often tidal above Hanham Weir.
Also it is often tidal above Brownshill Staunch (we have been through this
on the level) and therefore St Ives Lock should be included.
Before Barmby Barrage was built , I suppose that the first lock, (West
Cottingwith) on the Pockling ton and Elvington Lock on the Derwent were
boater operable locks at the head of the tideway.

I have thought of another couple, the Watergate in Chester Weir, and Grove
Hill Lock onto Beverley Beck - well we did them ourselves. I also suppose
that if you knew Harry Mayor you used to be able to do Tarleton Lock
yourselves. Again Widnes Lock and Fiddlers Ferry Locks are operated by the
local boat club.
