Glascote bottom has been quite exceptionally slow this year. It started 
with a problem with the bottom cill giving way, and BW attempted  to 
fix it over 3 stoppages. It's still leaking away, and its top paddle 
culverts appeared to be partly blocked when we came through the other 
day.

It took us about an hour to do the two locks, having been third in the 
queue when we arrived at the top. Record time seems to be six hours 
during the Bank Holiday weekends.

Main knack to getting the best time - don't draw the bottom paddles of 
the top lock before the  bottom lock is full and open, so that less 
water has to be passed through it before it makes a level. That way, 
the bottom lock was taking about 10 minutes to fill, as opposed to 20 
if you emptied the top lock into it. But it was quite a challenge to 
persuade people of this as the queues built up above and below.
