Simply putting a boater or two on the board would not be sufficient. Indeed boaters are not a uniform lot. Adrain and I would take rather different positions I suspect on key issues. But having a board that has no empathy with the waterways as a system - ie has no collective understanding of the heritage, community and user aspects - is a real issue. Putting together a civil engineer with a property developer and a finance expert may provide useful skills, but doesn't guarantee the feel for the waterways that Dave Fletcher undoubtedly had. -- Nigel Stanley
