It's a common misunderstanding that if you buy your licence a month 
early you will get it at the old rate. Sorry peeps, it's not true.

If you have a BW licence with a renewal date of 1st April 2008 you 
will pay the 2008 fee, not the 2007 fee for your length of boat no 
matter how early you apply. I should know, I used to work in that 
department.

The debate about the amount a licence costs is another thing 
altogether ... and there's just been a big consultation exercise on 
that. I gather EA licences are going up a lot too and I have heard 
many rumbles (sorry, grumbles) about golden and geese and cooked, as 
well as minority users, other users don't contribute, maintenance, 
access for all, heritage etc etc.
