"All fuels are dangerous, only some are more dangerous than others...."
Diesel is safe until you get it burning...  once it starts then it's just as 
dangerous as petrol.
Heat output of burning Diesel and Petrol is very similar at around 45 
MJ/kg - not surprising as they are both mainly hydrocarbon mixtures
