We boats must understand that though towpaths were for horses and people their 
main use now (in their improved - hard on the feet form) is for cyclists. Us 
others are allowed as long as we get out of their way and don't impede their 
progress.
 
 I still wait for the day when I see a person in a wheelchair (one of BWs 
excuses for their spending on towpaths) encounters cyclists coming head on -  
given the hard width is often barely enough for one chair and the edges of the 
path are often uncut nettles.

Absolutely. Now that the initially pristine towpath has settled in 
many places, there are quite a few muddy patches. A developing 
hazard is trying not to be near one when the un-mudguarded cyclists 
zoom past and distribute the environment liberally behind them.
