There is good mooring just above Sandiacre Lock, although I would go on a
little way onto the moorings in the middle of Sandiacre if you want to stop
there.  The Erewash is quite do-able in a day.  Go up to the Royal Oak on the
first night which is about 20 mins above Trent Lock, the food at the pub is
good.  If you leave the pub at about 8.30am you should make it up to the Great
Northern Basin at about 3.30 if you don't stop.  Good moorings and cheap diesel.
Frankly the Erewash Canal has been much maligned and is a great canal to cruise
and no worse than some parts of the BCN!
If you get to the top then I would sugest the Railway as a good pub the beer is
excellent and a real; alea CAMRA pub1

Enjoy

Having walked from Trent Junction along the Erewash Canal up to the M1
overbridge some years ago, it strikes me that I don't remember any
places that would be suitable for an overnight stop. We're just a
fortnight away from taking Silkwood around the Leicester Ring and if
time and weather allows, we're considering a trip up the Erewash and
back as well.

Could somebody with knowledge of this canal suggest suitable spots.
In particular, is there anywhere near Ilkeston (just in case we happen
to be in that area on the same night as Leicester City are playing a
pre-season friendly there)?
