I was delighted to read Brian Dominic's account of his trip on
Laplander, on his web site. Several years ago I had occasion to
correspond with Sean and he asked me to help move the boat from
Warwick to Rugby (our family was on a hire boat along the same
route). The main difference was that it was during one of the worst
heat spells we have seen in Britain, so it was one warm experience.
Being with Sean was of course great fun because he knows so many
people along the cut, particularly in Braunston, and handling that
craft is quite unusual. I think I have had an experience unique
among U.S. narrowboaters. We see a lot about other steam
narrowboats, but I don't think Sean gets enough credit for preserving
Laplander (or maybe he likes it that way).
