Yeah, but does it cause a "tide" - probably not. It's just water
moving back and forth, more likely when passing or approaching bridge
holes and other constrictions. You can sometimes get the same effects,
but smaller, with narrowboats. Still, it's very impressive - the level
can alter by a good couple of feet, and the effects start a good 10
minutes before, and finish 10 minutes after the barge has been by.
