It's been a while since I was there - but I seem to recall that Hillmorton locks are like that....... but then when I've boated single handed - I've always taken a fore line ashore and used it to keep the boat on the gate ahead. Takes seconds and saves any problems. with a certain other 70' boat I travel on - we just let the driver keep the boat in place - he's never allowed to leave his 'ole when in a lock :-)) -- Malcolm
