I've heard it said that the plan was to renumber the bridges in the 
Braunston-Napton 'joint' GU / Oxford Canal section (built and owned by the 
Oxford company but forming a part of the GU London to Brum route) as part of a 
numbering system that went all the way from Braunston to Brum. The section 
north of Napton was duly renumbered, but for some reason the bit from Napton to 
Braunston never was. So that's where the 'missing' numbers would have been.

It seems possible, but anyone confirm or refute it?
