Yes Roger knows and confirms: Our IWA local branch members heard about this crazy sign on Sunday morning (a day before Adrian) and phoned BW Monday morning expecting to hear that it was a mistake -which it was. It seems that BW just want to cover themselves by denying any responsibility upstream of this bridge which we know is not their water. IWA will watch closely to make sure that if they insist on a replacement it will not say anything else wrong or plain stupid.
Glad to confirm, I lurk but rarely post here but it is useful to see what goes on around the country and contributors thoughts on various topics. --- In [email protected], "Ray Butler" <ray.but...@...> wrote: > > As the "brains" behind the Folly Bridge protests of 1980 - 82 (girders were > placed under the bridge reducing the headroom to 3 ft 6 because a lorry had > knocked a hole in the pavement) that got the bridge reopened after *that* > BW foul-up I find the crass ignorance that this displays absolutely > appalling. > > It took 2 years and 2 blockades of the navigation (Conveniently located for > the Old Barge Pub) to reclaim the winding hole last time. > > Folly Bridge has restricted headroom (in that you have to go through with > the chimney down but - If I remember aright - not the cans > > AFAIR The Lee is a commercial waterway with a public right of navigation up > to the proper head which is the TOWN BRIDGE above Folly Bridge. > > Has anybody raised this with Roger Squires (IWA Chair of Navigation > committee) or Herts IWA? > > Ray Butler > [Owl] > Down Shropshire >
