Some years ago John Lilley suggested that working the Knowle flight should be
an Olympic Event. Having seen their discus thowers (on beerbottle opener needed
with those gels) I always fancied the East German Ladies team to win the event
and it would make great TV with all the back shots of them winding paddles and
rushing to the next lock!

This raises the question when will the sport of canal cruising become
an Olympic event.

Will venues Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo have to offer to build a canal
network to succeed in their bid to host the games.
