Strangely, the Old Ship does a nice pot of tea as well, so you don't actually *have* to drink beer if you don't want to. ;-)
But if you do, I suggest Brewers Gold (or Maldon Gold). I might be a bit biased here as they gave us tea a while back while we were painting the lock bollards in Essex Waterways Ltd corporate colours (Ford Tractor Blue!). The Ship also has outdoor tables and if you time it right you can be right next to the action while boats are locking out onto the river. The 'right time' is one hour before slack-water/high tide and you can get some idea of when this will be for any given day from http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/coast/tides/tides.shtml?date=20100504&loc=0124 (by changing the 'date=' bit to the date you're thinking of visiting) Dave D -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Tue, 4 May 2010 16:08 Subject: [canals-list] Re: Chelmer & Blackwater On Tue, 04 May 2010 09:21:31 -0400, [email protected] wrote: >If you turn left, you get to the main sight-seeing spot with a choice of the olly Sailor and the Old Ship pubs (food served most of the day). It is run by ilkins, the Tiptree Jam firm, and I thoroughly recommend the toasted tea cake ith Tiptree jam! I shall recommend that to my Dearly Beloved while I SUFFER by having o stay in the pub to drink BEER. And get my Dearly Beloved to drive. bjg ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
