I'd have no real worries about doing it in either direction under normal conditions - and if either river was seriously in flood I'd tie up and wait anyway. But I suppose that all other things being equal there's a case for going down the Severn and up the Avon: the Severn being a wider straighter (and, let's face it, less interesting - as others have pointed out!) river you won't have to worry about going round blind bends with the current or finding enought width to turn round and moor facing upstream. > Any places best to avoid and any nice places to moor? > We liked the Anchor Inn in Wyre Piddle where you can tie up to the pub garden and sit outside on the terrace with a good view of the river.
