I reckon the lock looks much too wide for typical South Wales dimensions. And 
those look like double top gate recesses. I'd go for one of the Thames & Severn 
Canal locks in the Golden Valley above Brimscombe which were shortened at the 
top end as a water-saving measure. Somewhere like Red Lion Lock would seem to 
fit the bill - it has buildings on the left hand side when looking upwards.
