I found it isn't all that accurate in places, and hasn't got some
shallows clearly marked, that having been said they are worth having
for first timers.

Not sure where you mean since these little places are clearly marked
on most maps, where is this near (village or ip adress to an online
map).

On the corners its surprising just how close you can get, nearly
brushing the visable boulders. As you mention, go the wrong side as
nessesary.
