Hi Susheel,
     I am really sorry that you take what i said as promotion of a commercial solution. Like I mentioned I only said your idea was good and that use of AJAX would work very well.

     My post was only to second your idea that AJAX would be good for the components that you mentioned. For your information we use AJAX through out our applications (not only the HMS that we built) as a standard.

     As for "By fishing for potential users of care 2x from this mailing list and making them customers of a proprietary solution would eventually result in the death of this project." My intention is not to cause some thing that will result in the death of this project. ON THE CONTRARY, I believe that open source projects will live despite any efforts by people to try to kill them, so my intention was not to kill this project or any other.

     More over for an open source project there should not be concern that it will lose customers to a proprietary solution, but should make efforts to provide a strong case for clients to choose it despite commercial solutions. So let us on this list not be concerned that care2x is losing customers to a commercial solution, but work to improve it.

     As for my belief about the project, (which i mentioned to you before), care2x is a good start for a hospital information system, but the way it has grown, it needs to be refactored a lot to make it really good. (I am not starting a flame about care2x, but am only mentioning my personal opinion).

     As for no solution like care2x coming out of the country, there are various reasons for that. To list just one (some thing that we experienced with deploying care2x itself about 3 years back); When we as independent vendors go to hospitals which need a HIS and say we will deploy care2x in your hospital, the cost of implementation will be X amount, the way people look at it is "Hey guys you want to deploy an opensource solution, and want to charge us for that! "

     For the indian context also I believe we need to make a lot of changes to care2x to make it work for us rather than look at it as "ok we have some thing free, let us TRY to use it by chaning the way we work to suit the way care2x works."

     Thanks for closing the mail with some thing that drives me too, these lines are wonderful and inspiring, let me also end it with the same.

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection:
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is lead forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action—
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

     Let care2x group's mind "be without fear of commercial vendors trying to take the initiative from care2x away" Let us grow to make care2x better so that when a commercial vendors says hey i have this, we should be able to say, we have it too.

     When there is truth, let us accept it and be open to it, to reach towards perfection.

      I have been with care2x for quite some time and have been following the project for the past three years with the wish that it will grow to a state where it will be accepted as a wonderful, easily customizable product.

     I work with opensource projects like exoplatform, mambo, smarty, pear, struts, spring and others which are not threatened by other commercial equivalents but have taken the market in their own strenghts. I believe Care2x can do the same and if it turns out that it cannot, there is no reason mourning it.

Thanks,
Sarath.

Hi Sarath

I have nothing against proprietary software , please dont get me wrong.
But using a GPL discussion forum to promote ones commercial solution is not in line with the ethos of the "open source" community. By fishing for potential users of care 2x from this mailing list and making them customers of a proprietary solution would eventually result in the death of this project.

If AJAX features are not available on care2x , then we should all work towards getting that incorporated into care2x rather than find a suitable alternative in a Proprietary and Closed source solution.

Is it not a shame that despite India being a leading exporter of software there is no implemenation of a robust solution like care2x  worth mentioning in our country ?.
I close with a few lines from Gitanjali by Tagore

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection:
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is lead forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action—
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

Hi Susheel,
     You are right that the solution that we have is a Proprietary
solution, but we provide the source to our customers under adequate
controls (to ensure that the code is not released from the client by
accident or intention). Extension of our product is possible by clients
implementing some of the APIs directly and making modifications to the
UI by themselves.

    We support our customers through various communication tools like
wikis, feature/bug lists, rss feeds, etc to give a continuous hold about
what is happenning with the development. We follow many processes that
you would expect in OSS environments, so I believe for our customers we
provide an open solution that they donot have to be dependent upon in
the case of lack of support from us at some point in time in the future.

     As for my post, I was only seconding your thought that using AJAX
adds a lot of value to the user's perspective in terms of usability.

Thanks and Regards,
Sarath.
