Actually, what i did was to configure CAS through the egroupware setup menu and there is an option within the CAS menu that is "Authentication Mode" and has two possible values (PHP-Client and PHP-Proxy).
I choosed "php-client" the first time and it didn't work. After reading your email when you say "You need to use proxy() and intead of client() before your can can get proxy tickets." i choosed "PHP-Proxy" instead of "PHP-Client" but it didn't work either. I'm not touching anything else, only the setup menu in the CAS section. At the moment i'm using egroupware 1.8, do you think i should try with egroupware 1.8?
