I rebuilt my manual pump a couple of years ago and I can tell you the discharge valves will blow open in light breeze - even when new - they are just light weight rubber - frankly I'm not sure they'd stop much of a back flow. Which I guess is why it's located pretty high in the stern locker.

Electrical bilge pumps are not know for head discharge pressures. The resistance of the valves in the mnaual pump may be too much for the automatic pump to overcome. Neither pump stops the other from drawing and discharging water. Give it a try with your setup and see if it works, it should be just as simple as attaching your automatic pump to the take up of the manual pump.
